Writing tips

How to Write Love in Cursive

Love has only four letters, so each join shows. Write it slowly a few times before it goes on the card.

  1. Start with the capital L. Begin with a small loop at the top, bring the stroke down, and finish with a little loop on the baseline that carries straight into the o.
  2. Close the o and leave it with a bridge. The o ends at the top, not the baseline, so the stroke into v runs across like a short bridge.
  3. Keep v and e open. The v also ends with a small bridge at the top; drop from it into a loose loop for the e, and finish with a light upward tail.
  4. Capital or lowercase? A capital L feels like a title and suits a card front. Lowercase love is softer and more personal, and is the usual choice for tattoos and stamps.

For focused letter practice, see capital L, lowercase o and lowercase v. Writing the whole message? See I Love You in cursive and how to write a love letter.

Love fonts

Love Fonts: Choosing a Cursive Style

Every style below is in the studio above. Click one to see Love written in it, then change the words.

  • Allura: slim and graceful; lovely for a wedding sign, an invitation, or one large word on a card. Write Love in Allura
  • Parisienne: romantic with long, open loops; the classic choice for Love on a card front or a tattoo sketch. Write Love in Parisienne
  • Dancing Script: relaxed and easy to read, so it suits longer love quotes and notes inside a card. Write Love in Dancing Script
  • Birthstone: light and slightly tall, for a quiet, elegant line on a gift tag or a framed print. Write Love in Birthstone
  • Lobster: bold and rounded; reads from across a room on a mug, a sticker, or a sign. Write Love in Lobster
  • MonteCarlo: formal and full of flourishes; keep it to one or two words so it stays readable. Write Love in MonteCarlo

Pairing two styles? Letter the main word in a flowing script and set any small text in a plain serif or sans, never a second script.

FAQ

Questions about the love quote cards

Can I save these love quote cards as images?

Yes. Every card above downloads as a PNG image, with its coloured background or transparent. Send it as a love quote image, set it as a phone wallpaper, or drop it into Canva, Google Docs, or Word to make your own card. Each card is 2,400 pixels wide, which prints sharply up to about 8 inches across.

Which cursive font is best for a love tattoo?

For a small love tattoo on the wrist or finger, choose a style with open loops and few overlapping strokes, such as Dancing Script or Parisienne, so the lines stay clear as the ink settles. Type the word in the box above, try lowercase and capital L, and download the transparent PNG to show your tattoo artist. Ask them to size it on your skin before the stencil is made.

When should I choose the transparent PNG?

Choose the transparent PNG when the lettering goes on top of something else: a photo, a mug, kraft paper, or your own card design. Choose the PNG with background when you want the finished card exactly as shown.

How do I use the printable practice sheet?

Choose Printable practice in the preview above, pick portrait or landscape, then print or save the sheet as a PDF from the print dialog. Each line of your message prints first as a grey row to trace, then as blank rows to write on your own. Trace the quote two or three times, write it on the blank rows, and only then move to the card.

Can I use the love quote cards on things I sell?

Yes. The downloads are free for personal and commercial use. They are made from fonts released under the SIL Open Font License.
