Writing tips

How to Write Happy Thanksgiving in Cursive

Start with a tall capital H in Happy. Keep the two p descenders below the baseline and leave a clear word space. In Thanksgiving, give the capital T room, keep the h and k loops open, and finish the long word without crowding its final letters. Try each word separately before writing the full greeting. For focused letter practice, see capital H and capital T.

Card guide

What to write in a Thanksgiving card

A Thanksgiving card is a thank-you at heart, so keep it short and specific: a greeting, one thing you are grateful for, and a warm sign-off. In the US, Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26; mail cards a week ahead, or bring one with the host gift.

  1. Greeting. “Happy Thanksgiving, Aunt Linda!” Letter this part in the largest cursive on the card.
  2. One reason you are thankful. Choose a message from the Thanksgiving wishes above, or name something real: the dinner they hosted, the help they gave, the year you shared.
  3. Sign-off. “With gratitude,” “Love,” or “See you at the table,” then your name in smaller, simpler handwriting.

For a host, a one-line card on top of the pie or wine says enough. For coworkers and clients, thank them for the year and wish them a restful long weekend. Use a flowing style such as Allura for the greeting and an easy-to-read style such as Dancing Script for the longer message.

FAQ

Questions about the Thanksgiving cards

Can I save these Happy Thanksgiving cards as images?

Yes. Every card above downloads as a PNG image, with its coloured background or transparent. Share it as a Happy Thanksgiving image, post it online, or drop it into Canva, Google Docs, or Word to make your own card. Each card is 2,400 pixels wide, which prints sharply up to about 8 inches across.

Can I make Thanksgiving place cards with the lettering?

Yes. Type a guest’s name in the box above, choose a style, and download the transparent PNG. Place one name on each half of a folded tent card, about 3.5 by 2 inches, print on cardstock, and fold. Repeat for each guest.

When should I choose the transparent PNG?

Choose the transparent PNG when the lettering goes on top of something else: a photo, kraft paper, a place card, or a menu. Choose the PNG with background when you want the finished card exactly as shown.

How do I use the printable practice sheet?

Choose Printable practice in the preview above, pick portrait or landscape, then print or save the sheet as a PDF from the print dialog. Each line of your message prints first as a grey row to trace, then as blank rows to write on your own. Trace the greeting two or three times, write it on the blank rows, and only then move to the card.

What pen is best for writing Thanksgiving cards?

A fine felt-tip or gel pen around 0.5 mm suits the message inside; for a large Happy Thanksgiving headline, a brush pen or a fine-tip marker gives the thick and thin strokes cursive is known for. Test the pen on the back of the card or the envelope first: glossy and coated cards can smear, so give the ink a minute to dry. On kraft or dark paper, a white or gold paint marker reads best.

Can I use the Thanksgiving card images on cards I sell?

Yes. The downloads are free for personal and commercial use. They are made from fonts released under the SIL Open Font License.
