How to write capital T in cursive
Stroke by stroke
- Start at the top line and draw a wavy cap stroke from left to right.
- Lift the pen and start the stem just under the middle of the cap.
- Pull the stem down to the baseline in a gentle curve.
- Curve to the left at the bottom and finish with a short hook. Then lift the pen.
Common mistakes
- Adding a crossbar. A bar through the stem turns T into F. Leave the stem uncrossed.
- Stem too far from the cap. If the stem starts away from the cap, the two parts float apart. Start it just under the cap.
- Long hook. A long hook at the base can drop below the line and make T look like a J. Keep the hook short.
Easy to confuse with
Capital T is almost the same as capital F, and a T with a long base hook can pass for a capital J. Capital I is also close when the cap is very short.
Joining to the next letter
Capital T ends with a short hook and usually a pen lift. Th is the most common English start, so write the h right next to the stem. Te, Ti and To work the same way; flowing styles let the hook lead into the next letter.
