How to write lowercase t in cursive
Stroke by stroke
- Swing up from the baseline to about halfway between the midline and the top line.
- Stop sharply and retrace straight down to the baseline.
- Round off at the bottom and rise into the exit.
- After the whole word is finished, cross the stem with a short line.
Common mistakes
- Loop in the stem. A loop turns t into l. Retrace the stem.
- Stem too tall. A stem that reaches the top line looks like an l with a cross. Stop halfway.
- Crossing mid-word. Stopping to cross each t breaks the flow. Write the word first and cross at the end.
Easy to confuse with
Lowercase t is confused with l, i and the plus sign. The retraced stem separates t from l, the height separates it from i, and the stem should be longer than the cross.
Joining to the next letter
Lowercase t exits low. Th is the most common pair in English: the exit climbs straight to the top line for the loop of h. Te flows into the loop of e. Ti rises to the short stroke of i, and to needs a bridge into the top of the o.
