How to write capital K in cursive
Stroke by stroke
- Start with a small hook near the top line and pull the stem down to the baseline.
- Lift the pen and start the arm at the top right. Curve it down and in toward the middle of the stem.
- Make a small loop at the stem.
- Kick the leg out and down to the baseline, then rise into the exit.
Common mistakes
- Arm missing the stem. If the arm stops short of the stem, K splits into an I and a C. Bring the arm all the way in.
- Leg too short. A leg that ends above the baseline leaves no exit. Kick it down to the baseline.
- Big middle loop. A large loop at the stem makes K look like a capital R. Keep the loop small.
Easy to confuse with
Capital K can be mistaken for capital H, R and X. H has a second stem, R has a closed bowl, and an X-like K is usually one whose arm and leg do not meet the stem.
Joining to the next letter
Capital K joins from the end of its leg. In Ke, the exit flows into the loop of e. Ki rises to the short stroke of i. Ks climbs to a point for the s, and Ka travels right before turning back into the oval.
