How to write capital R in cursive
Stroke by stroke
- Start near the top line with a small hook and pull a slanted stem down to the baseline.
- Retrace up to the top line and swing out into a bowl that comes back to the middle of the stem.
- Make a small loop at the stem.
- Kick the leg out and down to the baseline, then rise into the exit.
Common mistakes
- No leg. Without the leg, R is a P. Kick out after the loop.
- Leg from the wrong place. A leg that starts at the bottom of the stem makes R look like a K. Start it from the loop at the middle.
- Big middle loop. A large loop at the waist can make R look like a B. Keep it small.
Easy to confuse with
Capital R is close to capital P, B and K. P has no leg, B has a second bowl, and K has an arm instead of a bowl.
Joining to the next letter
Capital R joins from the end of its leg. In Re, the exit flows into the loop of e. Ri rises to the short stroke of i. Ro needs a bridge into the top of the o, and Ra travels right before turning into the oval.
